Task 4d

Task 4d

So after further discussions with Alan, I realised that a BA in Professional Practice in Education of Drama would not be right as a title for my studies as it may appear like I have specific knowledge of education rather than the subject itself. Therefore I have decided on my original Award title of

BA (Hons) in Professional Practice in Drama & Theatre Arts

I have decided to specialise in Drama, however do not want to completely forget my Dance and Musical Theatre work which should come under all Theatre Arts.

  1. Hi Rebecca,

I think Alan has a valid point about using the word "education". I guess that would only come into play should you be working within schools and colleges towards examinations such as GCSEs and A Level etc?
It's tricky as when we teach, we are indeed offering an education of some kind. This may cause me problems with the use of "business" within my award title as I have no academic qualifications to back this up.
I think your choice of BAPP in Drama & Theatre Arts encompasses your prior training, your current work and also remains opens enough to offer you opportunities in the future.

This is possibly the biggest challenge isn't it!?

    Best Wishes,
    Jo

  2. HI Rebecca

Award title...What a tough decision to make!?

I have actually been playing around with ideas which are similar to yours. I predominantly work in musical theatre but I also teach dance. I have been searching for an award title which would incorporate both of these practices. I agree, the use of the word 'education' can be somewhat misleading. I think the assumption could be made that we are referring to GCSE/A Level/BTec dance and/or performing arts syllabi such as RAD or ISTD. I much prefer teaching 'free work' and performance skills and potentially see a future in teaching in vocational schools /colleges. So I feel that the word 'education' doesn't reflect my practice. However, what we do is a form of education but generally speaking I think could give the wrong impression.

The other issue to address is to make sure we choose a title that is specific enough to portray expertise but broad enough to keep future doors open.

I think your chosen award title sounds great, it covers all elements of your practice. I am still undecided!

    Thanks
    Kelly

    steph.
